The really astounding thing about 4chan that sticks out compared to other websites is its anonymity. Even now as we comment, we are using usernames, and can be directly argued with, ridiculed, harassed, or even reprimanded for what we post. When someone posts on 4chan, no one can direct anything back at them, because they are nameless (unless of course a Mod bans their IP, for instance).
