This Clip from The Host Is Pretty Unbelievably Great

I don’t watch horror movies. But I do watch clips of the good bits from horror movies, when helpful sites like io9 post them. (I never know if that’s a zero or a letter o in there. Well, today it’s a letter o.) Yesterday they posted this clip from The Host. Just watch that first epic 40-second shot! I don’t understand why all movies aren’t like this.

Will Google’s Insanely-Fast Kansas City Network Shame U.S. ISPs?

Google’s highly-anticipated plan to build an ultra-fast city broadband network kicked into gear Monday with the search giant’s announcement that it will begin laying miles of fiber-optic cable across Kansas City, Kansas and neighboring Kansas City, Missouri. Google said it aims to create a new “high speed infrastructure” that will allow local citizens to enjoy data speeds 100 times the national average. Google’s goal? To show off its telecom engineering chops and showcase next-generation web-applications. Oh, and maybe shame the big national broadband providers into improving U.S. Internet service speed, which currently lags behind many other countries around the world.

When will the world wake up and deal with the mutant fish problem??The whole movie is pretty good. I think they cut some serious gore out of this clip though.

BTW. Speaking of abominations in Asian filmmaking, anyone seen that Speilberg and Will Smith want to do an American version of Oldboy? While I’m a fan of those guys, they are far too Hollywood to even attempt to film any of the twisted stuff in that flick. Watered down disaster looms over that one.

BTW, it’s an “oh.” Like the Galilean moon.

I didn’t really like the rest of the movie. What can I say? Sometimes Asian cinema does it for me, sometimes it doesn’t.

I wasn’t feeling it for “The Host.”

Beg Beg Beg to differ Cliff…. The quirkiness of “The Host” made it compelling and the ending is simultaneously tragic yet uplifting. It is unlikely to be made into a US version. I find the recent Hollywoodizing of Asian horror repugnant and so opportunistic and I worry it subverts Asian film-makers who may have a view of the US market when producing work.
But I respect it’s not for everyone.
