Personally, I thought Asterix was at its best when Goscinny was still alive and writing the politically charged stories, particularly the ones that involve world travelling. The one where the gang goes to Belgium is still one of my all-time favorites. I think Uderzo did some good stories afterwards (the baby story and the magic carpet ride were both terrific), but none that stand out like Goscinny’s original work.

There’s supposed to be a new album this year, though I’ve already heard rumours that it will be just a compilation of short stories..
