The Donnie Darko Sequel

I somehow missed it when they posted a teaser-trailer for a sequel to Donnie Darko called S. Darko:

It’s not clear to me from this what connection if any Richard Kelly, who created Donnie Darko, has with this. (Though S. Darko — that’s Samantha, Donnie’s little sister — is played by the same actress as in the original.) What is clear: it’s straight to DVD. And it has Elizabeth Berkeley in it.

Will Google’s Insanely-Fast Kansas City Network Shame U.S. ISPs?

Google’s highly-anticipated plan to build an ultra-fast city broadband network kicked into gear Monday with the search giant’s announcement that it will begin laying miles of fiber-optic cable across Kansas City, Kansas and neighboring Kansas City, Missouri. Google said it aims to create a new “high speed infrastructure” that will allow local citizens to enjoy data speeds 100 times the national average. Google’s goal? To show off its telecom engineering chops and showcase next-generation web-applications. Oh, and maybe shame the big national broadband providers into improving U.S. Internet service speed, which currently lags behind many other countries around the world.

Wow, I have pretty much zero confidence in this movie being worth watching. Granted, I haven’t watched your video but I did visit the IMDB page. A movie about some other unrelated kid having a similar time would be a better premise for me, though still bad. I really liked Donnie Darko, and I’ll probably end up watching this at some point just out of curiosity, but I have little hope it will be good. Direct to DVD lowers the hope even further.

    Who’s Elizabeth Berkeley?

Though IMDB lists “Richard Kelly (characters)” as a writer, digitalspy.com says “Kelly, the writer and director of the 2001 Jake Gyllenhaal film, has distanced himself from the Chris Fisher-helmed sequel.”
They should’ve cast like Robin Givens and Dustin Diamond and maybe the Steve Urkel guy, made this a true straight to video masterpiece.
