You should catch his USC shorts, Lev. His thesis film was also THX-1138, and had most of the "good stuff" just with lower budgets. Most interestingly, though, his other shorts (esp. his 290 but the title escapes me) are really very experimental and somewhat daring. I can see the roots of the creativity that went into the *production* of the Star Wars movies. But I can also see the lack of confidence in telling a compelling story well that took over when he gave up Empire and Raiders and divorced Marsha.

I really need to see this. Of course if it's nigh unwatchable I think we all know the solution to fixing it: Send Hurley from Lost further back in time and have him send George a new script (I secretly think that's the whole plot of the show).

I remember watching it in High school thinking, ok I know that this is suppose to be awesome but why is it. I agree its not fantastic but the premeise and themes are great but are they good enough to redeem the movie as a whole?

Was this the version where he went back and re-invented the midgets as some kind of monkey? Because, that really made all the difference.
.
He should have looked at BSG to find out how to re-invent a show...

I recall, more than 30 years later, the unctuous voice of he robocop, "The door seems to be locked from inside. Please open it so we can help you." And the abrupt end to the pursuit because it had exceeded budget was hilarious. Or am I remembering a Woody Allen movie? peace, mjh
