His thesis film was also THX-1138, and had most of the “good stuff” just with lower budgets. Most interestingly, though, his other shorts (esp. his 290 but the title escapes me) are really very experimental and somewhat daring. I can see the roots of the creativity that went into the *production* of the Star Wars movies. But I can also see the lack of confidence in telling a compelling story well that took over when he gave up Empire and Raiders and divorced Marsha.
