I grew to disdain them; when I originally saw ROTJ, I was too young to understand how silly they were (I liked Wicket). Lucas at one point admitted the Ewoks were originally Wookies prior to his assignment of Chewbacca to the Millennium Falcon (and the respective tech savvy necessary thereto). I used to comfort myself by trying to imagine the battle with burly Wookies fighting — and then Lucas went and killed that imagined idea by demonstrating the battle on the Wookie homeland in ROTS.
