True of False: Is This the Worst Ever?

I just received my review copy of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on Blu-ray and I realize we’re not all coded the same way, but I thought this movie was horrible. In fact, I would love it if Hollywood would stop killing what fond memories of my youth I still possess. The video game was horrible, BTW.

Is this the worst video game/cartoon adaption? Or is there something else with which you hold to a higher level of contempt?

If we’re doing video game adaptions as well, don’t forget Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, or In the Name of the King. If you think GI Joe was bad, imagine if it had been directed by Uwe Boll…

I may have liked Joe if Boll had directed it.

I was going to bring up Dr. Boll, but you beat me to the punch. I will say the G.I. Joe was the biggest commercial for Toys ‘R’ Us I’ve ever seen. Transformers’ got nothin’ on it.

Bad word of mouth and terrible reviews kept me away from this one.
Is the Garfield movie in the same league as Joe? I accidentily watched 30 minutes of it, and feel much dumber because of it.
Is it true there was a street fighter adaptation?

I’d definitely throw in Garfield. Are you referring to the Legend of Chun Li? And what about Dragon Ball?

If Hollywood touches Calvin and Hobbes, I’ll…

  • truevcu

I can’t tell if he means the older Street Fighter movie or Chun Li. If the former, let me say you will never, EVER know just how lucky you are not to have that in your memory.

Hollywood can’t touch Calvin and Hobbes, Bill Waterson never sold the rights, so there can be no cartoons, shirts, or window stickers unless they’re illegally made. Thank god.

Was I the only person who enjoyed this movie? Sure, a couple of parts were over the top. And yes they changed a few parts (Baroness and Cobra Commander.. not an ‘American Team’ etc).. but I learned a LONG time ago not to get my expectations up for something like this. I understand that to make a movie for the masses they’re enevitably going to change some things… just as long as they still get the feeling of the original. And for me, this had enough of the original material correct to be ok with the changes.

And can we get Bruce Campbell as Shipwreck in the sequel?

G.I. Joe: Resolute is a much better movie and true to the original story arc.

Wait, wait. So those pictures on the back of Chevy pickup trucks with Calvin urinating on the Ford logo are not legitimate merchandise? Well, that changes my entire world perspective.

    worst line of the movie…

“They say knowing…it’s half the battle” – die…at least the Transformers used the sound from the cartoon and had the real voice of Optimus…

I can’t wait for a GI Joe vs. Transformers movie…..even better than AVP. lol. Why does the american movie industry love destroying great concepts?

  • mrtanaka

Because people continue to pay to see it. It really is that simple. If people kept buying rainbow bright, and studebakers they’d still make rainbow bright and studebakers.
