Upon further research, it’s 1,500-meter tidal wave, NOT 1,500-feet. So that fact in the film is even MORE absurd. But by then, the Earth’s crust has shifted 28 degrees, so we’re already running pretty deep in absurdity. Here’s the thing tho: That deadly tsunami a few years back was only like 40-50′, right? And it killed what, like 200,000? A 20′ wave can do serious damage, because as it comes ashore, I think the impact gets multiplied. So if you’re talking 1,500 meters, while still in the middle of the ocean, imagine what happens as it comes ashore and gets pushed up by the land. Would it top the Himalayas? Doubtful. But also doubtful: Pretty much everything that happens in “2012.”

Wow, this is something different from the good old days. But it looks good, certainly more stylish and marketable.

I saw 2012 last Saturday, I agree with Snyder about the really cool effects and the major destruction turn into entertainment shown in the movie. Although, anon76 quote is more than obvious: either a bad typo or a really bad answer from Mr. Doomsday Institution.

A 1500′ wave topping the Himalayas? People do realize that a 1500′ wave would still be 18000′ short of Everest base camp, right? Seriously, if anything is going to be deserving of condescension in a post, it would be the premise of this movie.

Yikes. I was truly a little overwhelmed simply by the unfamiliar, “flashy” format. I may have teared up, just a teensy bit, for the comfortable, stripped-down feeling of nerdworld. Then I read this piece, which feels exactly like every other nerdworld post. Simple, neither condescending to, nor ass-kissing of, its subject. Finally,. I say that kemper and yogi had made the first replies and I knew…I was Home!
