A new Marvel character has been revealed today and his name is Hitman Monkey. Yes, he’s a Japanese macaque that happens to be a hitman. Executive Editor Alex Alonso describes Hitman as a “soulful, tortured, jazz-loving 30-pound engine of destruction.” Oh, he’s also the monkey equivalent of Chow Yun Fat from ‘The Killer’ but I’m hoping he’s more like Chow Yun Fat in ‘Hard Boiled’ since he’s wielding dual pistols. Daniel Way will write Hitman Monkey with Dalibor Talijic handling art duties.

Hitman Monkey also marks the first time a new character has been introduced via Marvel’s ongoing Digital Comics medium. Look for an exclusive along these lines tomorrow, Marvel fans! Anyway, Hitman Monkey will make an appearance in Deadpool #20 with his two-part digital comic rolling out next month.

The back story on Hitman is quite funny.

“Daniel Way [said] ‘I’m thinking Spider-Monkey,’ [and I responded] ‘In a sharply-tailored black suit?’ [He said] ‘Yep.’ Frank Cho added the gloves and colorist Jason Keith added the red tie. It’s a wrap.”

Once Hitman Monkey does make his way into the pages of the Merc With a Mouth’s own book, Alonso promises that “Deadpool and Spider-Man will never know what hit ’em. Hitman Monkey is a skilled martial artist and crack shot, plus he’s got mad hops. He is really good at what he does-one might even venture to say, he’s the best there is at what he-Wait.”
