Nintendo (Finally) Offers Demos Of WiiWare Titles

If you download game demos as much as I do, then you’ll be glad to hear that Nintendo is giving us free demos for its WiiWare titles. Starting today, the company is letting players test drive brand-new title Pokémon Rumble (above) as well as older games BIT.TRIP Beat, Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits and World of Goo.

I haven’t had a chance to try any of these titles yet except World of Goo a while back (buy it!), but now I’m more likely to give the other ones a whirl.

By the way, remember when Nintendo wasn’t going to give us any Wii demos at all? Back in March, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told MTV that the Wii’s SD card slot won’t change the company’s stance on offering demos for WiiWare and VC, which at the time were not offered (even though they had downloadable demos for the DS via the Wii’s Nintendo Channel). He said:

“(The SD card memory) doesn’t change our core philosophy. Our philosophy around demos has always been: how much demo do you provide to have the consumer excited but not so much that all they do is play the demo? That’s been an ongoing Nintendo philosophy.”

I guess when you’re trying to boost sales, that philosophy changes. And these demos seem to be a limited time offer with Nintendo saying they’ll be available “at least through the holidays,” so check ’em out sooner rather than later.
