There were some big issues in the shops this Wednesday. Actually there were a ton of issues at the shops. The most we’ve picked up in one day in a long time. There’s a lot to cover here but I think we’ve managed to yank out some great moments from some great titles. Here we go, our second installment of Techland’s Panel of the Week!

Blackest Night #5
Blackest Night #5
Well for the last few months in the DC Universe the Black Hand has been carrying around Bruce Wayne’s skull as a trophy. In Blackest Night #5 one of the now infamous Black Lantern rings brings back Batman. And no one is excited to see him. Not unlike real life for the Dark Knight.

I’m not sure what I was expecting with this title. The novelty of the idea is intriguing, certainly. Perhaps it was just because it’s issue #1 and there needs to be a lot of introducing going on. Kirkman did some time skipping but I’m assuming that the gang here is getting pummeled by none other than Omega Spawn, AKA Al Simmons. I do love me some Kirkman though and the pencils by Silvestri, McFarlane and Larsen are enough to bring me back in 30.

Before there were different colored bandanas, before there was Krang, before there was Ninja Rap there were just Ninja Turtles by Eastman and Laird. I own the original copy of this book somewhere and I forgot that in the first ever issue of the Turtles they take down Shredder. Not permanently of course, but yeah, in issue #1 they get right to business. It’s refreshing in this age of decompressed story telling. In this shot a battered foursome unwind and toss aside a now famous gauntlet.

Superman: Secret Origin #3
Superman: Secret Origin #3
Smallville meets Metropolis. Superman makes the move to the big city to become a reporter for the beleaguered Daily Planet. On his first day stumbling and stuttering through the streets and offices he meets Lois Lane. He also gets to save Lois Lane. She thinks he’s neat. Gary Frank’s art is absolutely stunning and no less than Big Blue deserves.

Question. If you are being attacked by a huge green monster that is as intelligent as he is immensely powerful what do you do to stop him? Well if you’re Captain America and the monster in question is codename: Nerd Hulk you do what any respectable super soldier would do. You kick him in the junk.
