Haven't been to a movie theater in about 5 years.

AVATAR brought me back. Went Christmas at 2:00 pm and it was perfect. Theater 20% full.

Saw it in 3D, but really far back. Next time I am going to sit closer and in the middle. Yes, next time because I want and need to see it again. The first time was too fast. The movie has some many fine and super details I want to appreciate again. Zoe has my attention, as did Michelle, Sam (Jarhead clan). The only minor thing I didn't like was Tsu'tey. Too predictable as chief-in-sitting jealous boyfriend acting contrary to what the Na'vi seem to be. He caves in when Big Red flaps his wings behind jakesully, as to remind him who is boss man here.

James has said his movies are meant to entertain. Hey James, thanks. Job well done. I was very entertained. Avatar 2: Rebuild Tree House is when?

ps Believe I am one of few that haven't seen Titanic yet.

My suggestions: (a) See it in 2D, (b) see it in 3D on a regular screen [but sit closer than you usually would and you can have nearly the experience of (c)] and/or (c) see it on a multi-plex pseudo-IMAX 3D screen (still, sit close because it's not the full immersion IMAX of old that originated for upscale science museums and stand-alone IMAX theaters mainly featuring nature documentaries).

Or maybe, a-b-c, see it multiple times at whatever venues are available to you. On Xmas Eve after family visitations I drove from Santa Barbara to Camarillo, CA (the nearest pseudo-IMAX screen) to see it in that format after having the 2D experience on its opening day, which was amazing. The Saldano and Worthington flying scenes were unparalleled in the 2D version. Maybe even better for me in 2D than in 3D, because more of my own imagination fueled the experience.

For the 3D viewing, I noticed some small details of Pandora's life forms that hadn't popped out in the first showing --- like the awkward "so ugly they're cute" mini-dinosaur bodies beneath what transformed into frisbee-sized, orange-ringed, inverted mushroom-cap-esque, phosphorescent flying orbs.

I'm happy to have seen the film more than once. And the golf-playing corporate greed meister role so clearly typifies what the majority of humanity's up against (and worse) in global leadership, let the "All Mother" help us now!

I was already really excited about the movie and reading this just makes think OMG it's just gonna blow my mind off. THE WORLD as we know it will just not be same after next week.
I wonder though, if the movie is available in non 3D theaters, should we watch it anyways or would it be a huge waste?

hah! maybe indeed....but i'm talking about that very first trailer, way back when. When everyone was like: Um, what's the story here? Or did that one make sense to you too?

Anyway, yeah, this movie kinda surprised me. They are pitching it as like war of the species, but it's so much more than that -

Wow, this was a really nice read. I'm more excited than ever!

One note though: I still don't get the "initial confusing trailers" that people talked about. The trailer made perfect sense to me. Maybe I'm just smarter than everyone else! Hah!
