We Give Out Awards for the Trailers Shown at the Spike VGAs

Lamest Trailer: Green Day Rock Band

Green Day announced that they’re the latest band to get the full Rock Band treatment. Knowing the Rock Band games well by now, we saw the usual: the note highways and the band as virtual avatars playing their music. But looking back, the trailer was nowhere near as exciting as the debut trailer for The Beatles: Rock Band. Granted, it’s comparing apples to oranges as far as the bands go, but trailer-wise, it would’ve been cool to see what makes Green Day Rock Band so special besides… Green Day.

Scariest Trailer: UFC 2010 Undisputed

I don’t watch UFC. But my friends do. And they, along with these shirtless, sweaty fighters, frighten me.

Sandiest Trailer: A Tie – Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Spec Ops: The Line

Dubai… Persia… same thing. Lots of sand.

Trying to Be Optimistic About a Google Music-Streaming System

The Wall Street Journal’s Amir Efrati and Ethan Smith are reporting that Google is working on a consumer-electronics system designed to stream music–and, eventually, maybe video and other media–around the home. Their story doesn’t have much in the way of detail, but does say that Google’s brainchild might be akin to a lower-cost version of Sonos’s excellent-but-pricey music-streaming products. Absent more details, there are several ways to respond to this sketchy bit of news.

    Man, I can’t wait for Crackdown 2!

I’m certainly not denying that the Halo Reach trailer was the best cinematic trailer at the event, but best trailer overall? At least Crackdown 2 gave us some kind of insight into what the actually game is going to be like. Even the tasteless Deadliest Warrior trailer had some gameplay footage (as awful as it was).

The Reach trailer simply showed some of the main characters and gave us a small dose of the Halo franchise’s signature unintentionally cheesy one-liners. Spartans never die, they’re only missing in action? I mean, come on.
