Uncharted 2: Among Thieves may have won the top kudos of the night at Spike’s annual video game award show over the weekend, but the televised event also had a lot of buzz surrounding all the new game trailers and announcements.

Since we couldn’t make it over to Los Angeles for the geek-filled gala, we decided to give out our own awards… based on the awards show.

(More on Techland: Best of the Decade: Video Games)

The nominees (trailer debuts): Batman Arkham Asylum 2, Crackdown 2, Green Day Rock Band, Halo Reach, Medal of Honor, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Spec Ops: The Line, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Tron: Evolution, UFC 2010 Undisputed.

Here goes…

Best Trailer: Halo Reach

Halo Reach is one of the most anticipated games of 2010. The trailer for the next title in the Halo franchise showed the first-ever in-game footage, which featured a squad and a “Lone Wolf” lieutenant about to embark on a mission to rescue fellow soldiers. It’s nearly three minutes long… and it’s glorious.

Best Trailer… With Reservations: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

The trailer for the first Force Unleashed was awesome. I mean, it had the Sith apprentice taking down a Star Destroyer. But if you played the game, you know how that really went down (yeah). And while this trailer shows the awesomeness of fighting a monster that eats Rancors for breakfast, I have to go with the “wait-and-see” attitude or face heartbreak again. Like when I saw Episode I and III in the theaters.

Least Surprising Trailer: Batman Arkham Asylum 2

Oh hey, Joker’s back? And they’re making a sequel to what is known as the best video game based on a comic book character to date? Shocking.

Lamest Trailer: Green Day Rock Band

Green Day announced that they’re the latest band to get the full Rock Band treatment. Knowing the Rock Band games well by now, we saw the usual: the note highways and the band as virtual avatars playing their music. But looking back, the trailer was nowhere near as exciting as the debut trailer for The Beatles: Rock Band. Granted, it’s comparing apples to oranges as far as the bands go, but trailer-wise, it would’ve been cool to see what makes Green Day Rock Band so special besides… Green Day.

Scariest Trailer: UFC 2010 Undisputed

I don’t watch UFC. But my friends do. And they, along with these shirtless, sweaty fighters, frighten me.

Sandiest Trailer: A Tie – Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Spec Ops: The Line

Dubai… Persia… same thing. Lots of sand.

Trailer with the Most Explosions: Crackdown 2

I mean, it says it all. Do I like to blow sh*t up? Yes. Yes I do.

Trailer Showing the Game Trying to Compete with Call of Duty: Medal of Honor

It’s clearly EA’s answer to Modern Warfare. Spec Ops: The Line was a close second. Good luck with that, guys.

Game Trailer Most Likely to Cause Seizures: Tron: Evolution

So many bright lights… and it looks way cooler than the movie ever did.

Trailer for a Game Series We Forgot: True Crime

The last game in the open-world action series came out in 2005 for last-gen consoles. The new title takes us to Hong Kong and stars an Asian protagonist. No gameplay here, but we’re interested to see more.

Best Move in a Trailer: Deadliest Warrior

I don’t have much interest in a game based on the Spike TV show that shows two historical warriors in an a hypothetical battle to the death… but I do have to admit the ninja star to the eyeball was pretty cool.
