It’s new comic book day! And not just for retail stores.

Today Sony is launching their new digital comic book service for the PSP. Comic book readers around the globe who own PSPs can purchase, download and read comics directly on their handheld gaming device. For now, just Marvel and Disney comics are available (no DC yet), but North American readers can start downloading in just a few hours according to the PlayStation Comics Twitter.

Will you be using the PSP as your new comic-reading device? I’m old-fashioned and like my comics on paper, but I’ll be dusting off my PSP to give this store a try.

UPDATE 3:20pm EST: The comics store is now live in the U.S. According to a press release from Sony, approximately 550 comics will be available today, with additional content added weekly from here on out. Comics will cost $1.99, with select comics going for $0.99 and $2.99. You can also currently get Disney’s Donald Duck and the Fussy Genie, and Marvel’s Transformers All Hail Megatron for free.
