While RE5 can be viewed as just a game about battling mutant-zombies in Africa, the first trailer ignited debate for its racial undertones, showing its white protagonist gunning down indigenous black people. Capcom later unveiled a black co-star, but that didn’t stop the message boards from heatedly debating the depiction of race in games.
