UPDATE: Maybe not. Looks like Spidey 4 is dead, folks.

Oh, goody. More winged men in action sequences.

Comingsoon.net reports that actor John Malkovich has confirmed his upcoming role as villain The Vulture in Spider-Man 4 on Italian sports show Quelli Che il Calcio. The news follows word of a production delay, with other Marvel film “Thor” stepping into Spidey’s May 6, 2011 release date.

Italian Web site Bad Taste posted this English translation of the interview:

“When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn’t deny his involvement, but confirmed that he’s waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible.”

Well, that seems pretty sewn up. But, I’m wondering how this will all play out. Spider-Man 3 took the word “bad” to some pretty epic extremes as far as superhero films are concerned, but then again, I’m not totally ready to relinquish my Spidey love just yet.

That said, the Spider-Man saga is still in need of a serious breath of fresh air. Maybe Malkovich’s Vulture will be just the bird for the job?

What do you think?
