Gruber Says Apple Tablet Has No Webcam, Orange Has Seen Nothing

I’ve been around long enough to know that every rumor – no matter where it comes from – cannot be trusted regarding any upcoming Apple products. The venerable John Gruber (who has a proven track record) says carriers aren’t privy to Apple products ahead of time and that he’s heard nothing about a webcam on the tablet.

I know, I should be slapped for being surprised at a link-bait headline from TechCrunch’s Robin Wauters. But, man, this one is just horrendous. Carriers do not get to see Apple products in advance. Remember Stan Sigman, CEO of Cingular? He admitted it flatly when the iPhone debuted: Cingular agreed to carry the iPhone without having seen it.

And, for what it’s worth, I’m hearing there is no camera, webcam or otherwise, on The Tablet.

You’ve seen and used the Apple Tablet?!

The Tablet makes good business sense for Apple. For one, iTunes has been a dominant position selling media from songs, movies to apps. What it lacks now are eBooks. With a device like the Tablet, it will be able to used the iTunes Store to deliver content such as electronic books and magazines faster and more efficiently than what Amazon is doing with its Kindle.

The iPhone is not the perfect fit for reading books as the screen is a tad too small.
