Neither Microsoft’s Natal, nor Sony’s motion controller are going to be game changers. Microsoft has the best chance, as it doesn’t involve an object potentially flying through my big screen television. Both, however, are gimmicks on the coattails of Nintendo’s outright dominance of this generation of consoles. Take your lumps, guys. The proper lesson to learn from Nintendo isn’t the gimmicky control style, but the games and pricing model that Nintendo aggressively followed from the first day.

I have mixed feelings — I like simple controllers (favorite is tossup between the N64 and GameCube controllers), but did not find that the Wii’s interface was good for anything other than the Wii Sports titles, etc. I find the 360 and PS3′s controllers to be unwieldy and too button-y.

2. NPD announced today that Wii Play is the bestselling game of all time. Of All Time. Man, I just can’t grok motion-controlled gaming. I mean, Natal is cool and all, but as a hardcore gamer I just don’t know if i can “go there.”
