Today in Techland: TABLET MANIA! Peter is still in San Fran, mentally preparing himself for the media battle at tomorrow’s unveil (and chatting with ngmoco’s Neil Young). In other news, Mass Effect 2 hit stores today. Gary has all of the details in his review. And – cue the twinkling orchestral soundtrack – we got our first peek at Universal Studio’s Hogwarts in their Orlando Resort. It’s awesome.

Because today is a good day to talk roller coasters. In Europe, Sega and Alton Towers Resort have reached an agreement for a Sonic The Hedgehog-themed roller coaster. The deal is set for three years and coaster has been christened Sonic Spinball, as in the Sega Genesis game. In addition, there will be a snazzy Sonic-themed room inside the resort, that I’m hoping does not included the teeth-grinding classic Sonic noises. You know the ones.
Will someone please inform Orlando Bloom that Legolas was not in The Hobbit. Dude, you’re not in that one. Sorry, but no. Apparently, Bloom has offered to don a blond wig and pointy ears once again for up coming film The Hobbit, Part 1. We have a strict “stick to the book” mantra when it comes to the genius of Tolkien portrayed on film, and we won’t break it. No matter how much we liked you. But we’ll see you on TNT again soon, don’t worry.
This week is really all about Steve… According to The Business Insider, iTunes is pushing to lower the cost of watching an episode of your favorite TV show from $1.99 to $.99. This is great for consumers, who normally pay $59.99 to a season pass for The Office, but not so great for studios, who would receive only $14.50 per season pass, after Apple took their third of the $22.
It’s a second coming, in a good way. Are you sitting down? Nintendo’s classic RPGs Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy ll are being prepped for release onto the iPhone and iPod Touch. Yes. Gamers, rejoice. According to PC World, no release date or prices have been set.
Embrace the future. Warner Bros. has green lit the release of Clash of the Titans AND both installments of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 3D. Save your Avatar specs, folks. You’re gonna need ’em.
