Um, no. No , definitely do NOT use that John Byrne garbage history. That reboot after Crisis was HORRIFIC. Anyone could kick his ass. And I'm not interested in a de-powered Superman.

DC pretty much died with the original Crisis series in 1985. Stories have become progressively darker, more hopeless. I and many lost interest entirely. If I wish to be depressed, I'll watch the evening news, or read a newspaper. Comics are supposed to be an ESCAPE from this world. Not a color-filled reminder of it.

Superman Returns was not great. I did not care for Routh. *shrugs* It would take a little work, but I would frankly have rather seen Reeves elder son take on the role. Now? Give it to Welling. He does it almost second nature.

Don't turn it into another Batman Returns. I much prefer Keaton's version to Bale's. Again, TOO depressing. I am going to a movie to be uplifted and entertained. Not to be reminded what a crappy place the world is.

Heroes should always win. Villains should always lose. Period. I'm not spending my money on anything other. If more people spoke out that way, Hollywierd MIGHT start listening. Hit them in the wallet, where they hurt the most.

I can't recall one storyline in the last 25 years I would have given a plug nickel for. Not one. They're not FUN anymore. And without the fun, there's JUST no damned point.

Sigh, mythologies (typing faster than my brain). Oh, and my two favorite Supes movies are Superman II (Superman I was OK but too corny) and the first half of Superman Returns (the second half blew and ignored everything that makes Kal El Superman, but that airplane scene kicks ass).

The problem with all Superman movies is the writers/directors have always felt they know the story better than any of the established methologies. Want a great Superman movie? Just adapt John Byrne's "Man of Steel" pretty much verbatim (hell, you've got the storyboards already) and you'll have a classic. Smallville is OK because of how it takes fun to see how established characters get incorporated into its alternate universe, but that sort of thing wouldn't fly in a true Superman movie because you need to hit the classic touchstones of the character so it has mass appeal (most people over 30 wouldn't even recognize the current DC universe - disclosure: I'm 46 :) ).

Actually the first for issues of Superman: Secret Origins have been pretty fantastic, so that would be a great adaptation as well.

I wonder when the studios are going to get to the point where they literally just make variations on the same movie as their sole product. "Superman" studios where they make a new Superman movie and if it's successful then they make a sequel and if it tanks they just turn out a rebooted variation. Their TV unit would turn out Supes the new series which would run until the ratings tank, then they do it again...

Superman has now had 5 movies and only two were arguably good (Which two? You decide. NERD FIGHT!). How many times do we need to resurrect a bad idea? Superman just isn't that interesting.
