On the whole thing with remakes and adaptations, the problem isn't that they are making so many, its that in most cases all they are are buying the name and using the characters. Its like some spoiled rich kid is telling their nanny to play "Dukes of Hazzard" for example, then deciding that it was boring went "lets do it this time but make it a farce".

Part of the problem is that they won't leave original works alone when adapting them. Adaptations are supposed to be the same material just adapted for the new medium. Understandable secondary changes are accepted to make it work, such as removing descriptions from a literary work because the user can see them in a visual representation.

Take for example the Sam Raimi Spiderman movie (Or as I tell my friends its a movie I hate to love but I do) Where Spiderman's powers were changed from the original comics, many of his best villans were killed in the boardroom scene where Osborn blew up opposition to his plans, and one of the greatest death scenes in the series was given a happy ending. Inspite of all that the movie was, on its own, emotional, compelling and exciting to watch and was one of the better movies of that time.

Even if an adaptation takes too many liberties and has allot of bad choices, if it is in itself a good enough film we will accept it.

The problem with most of the remakes and adaptations is they either take too many liberties changing the original material too much to be compensated for, or are in themselves a very bad film. If they were mostly like Spiderman or better, we probably wouldn't be bothered by it so much.

Is it high on my must see list? It does not have so much as an entry on my list, or even an asterisked reference for that matter.
I didnt care for last decade's planet of the apes reboot, why would I want to see a reboot/rebooted prequel? ick
