Today in Techland: Peter and I braved the cold and set off for this year’s Toy Fair and found ourselves elbows deep in stuffed animals, action figures and DIY slime. We’ll serve up the best of the best tomorrow, so keep an eye out. Meanwhile, Windows Phone 7 dropped today, and Steve talked Batman 3 plots and a possible Planet of the Apes remake. Huzzah!

Here’s what else is going on in nerd news around the Web:

Casting Call: Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead begins filming on May 15 for AMC, but there hasn’t been much talk about the cast until now. According to Big Shiny Robot, Jamie Bamber of BSG fame is the leading candidate for the role of Rick Grimes. Mark Pellegrino from LOST is also in the running along with Stuart Townsend.

Avatar prequel? Yep. It seems James Cameron is penning an Avatar prequel novel that will explain the histories of the major characters prior to the events on Pandora. What happened to Netyri’s sister and Grace’s school? What was Jake’s life like before Pandora? What happened to his brother?

Kirk turned Captain America: We’re only throwing this out there to cover our bases, but CinemaSpy is reporting that Chris Pine is the leading candidate to play Steve Rogers in The First Avenger: Captain America. The Hollywood gossip blog is skeptical of the info and questioning why the tipster even bothered to tell them.

Adobe cuddles up to Android: Here’s some info from MWC that might interest the Android users in the crowd – Flash Player 10.1 and AIR are coming to Android.

Can the Man of Steel dance? We might find out soon. Looks like the musical It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman will open at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in Dallas this summer. Please, no. No. No. No. Spider-Man reduced to dancing around in circles will be bad enough.
