Bruce Willis, Giddy: Unbreakable 2 (and 3?) and Die Hard 5

Lots of Bruce Willis news out there this week, all evocative of an actor giddy to cozy back up with his favorite franchises And maybe it’s just because I’m a nerd – and a male nerd at that – but I’m a little giddy on both fronts.

First off: Unbreakable, probably M. Night Shyamalan’s strongest film (seriously, go back to Sixth Sense with full knowledge of that final twist; not as great). Bruce told WENN that he and Shyamalan are both talking about returning to the movie that was supposed to be part of a larger trilogy: “I’ve been talking to [M.] Night Shyamalan about going back to do the middle story to Unbreakable. That whole story was written in three parts and he just chose to shoot the origin story first where the two characters find out they have superpowers. What he wanted to do at the time was shoot the second part where the two superheroes fight and we didn’t do that; we started a different way but he’s still talking about shooting that film.” (More at Techland: Zombie of the Week!)

So imagine a new Unbreakable 2, less brooding and more breakneck. And now imagine an Unbreakable 3, to boot.

Willis then spilled to MTV that Die Hard 5 is likely a sure thing – just moments after reminding his interviewer (and all of us) that he is not, in reality, John McClane. He just looks that way.

“I think we’re going to do a Die Hard 5 next year,” Willis told MTV, adding about the plot: “It’s got to go worldwide…That would be my contribution to [the next movie].” (More at Techland: Toy Story – The Best Movie Trilogy Ever?)

At most, I’m used to seeing major movie stars on the big screen only twice or thrice a year. If Willis’s 2011 was comprised of Die Hard 5 and Unbreakable 2, that would be just fine with me.
