Today in Techland: Things got a little crazy as Steve chatted with The Crazies director Breck Eisner about torture porn and the perfect “ick factor,” while Peter looked at the comic spin-off series. (Are they worth it? Oh yeah.) Meanwhile, Evan found the return of Aquaman in the silver lining of the upcoming game The Brave and The Bold (Wii and DS) and our latest podcast maps out just why we think Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland is destined to fail. As for me, I spent the day LOST in the meaning of Tron‘s new (and seemingly inherently lame) scavenger hunt.

Buck up, little ponies, you’re halfway through the week. But just in case you’re curious…

Here’s what else is going on in nerd news around the Web:

Doctor Who updates: According to Slice of Sci-Fi, the Matt Smith era of the famous BBC show will begin airing on April 3 across the pond. No word yet on BBC America air dates, but we do have this snazzy new(ish) trailer for you to oogle at. Thank us later.

Do your worst: The Pentax W90 looks like your average ruggedized point-and-shoot, but the 12.1-megapixel shooter has a “Digital Microscope” mode with LED lighting that’s capable of focusing on subjects as close as 1cm away. Other notable features: 2.7-inch LCD (16:9), HDMI port, 5x optical zoom, waterproof up to 20ft., shockproof up to 4ft., coldproof, HD (720p) video capture at 30fps, AF assist lamp and it’s compatible with an IR RC. The W90 ships in April for $330. Download the spec sheet here. (PDF)

What? No vampire sex? True Blood author Charlaine Harris will have her novel Grave Sight of the Harper Connelly series adapted into a comic series by Dynamite Entertainment this year. The series title character is able to sense corpses and tune into their death scenes. Cheery. I like it.

I’m With Coco: Looks like Conan O’Brien may have made his way to Twitter. His first (yet still unverified) tweet: “Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.”

Happy 55th Birthday, Steve: Congrats on making it to the big 55, Steve-o. It’s a shame your birthday is being overshadowed by the fact that 10 billion songs have been downloaded from iTunes in the last seven years. Something tells us he isn’t the sharing type. More importantly, what’s the deal with the Top 20 songs of all time?

Eeny meeny miny mo: Who will be the next Elijah Wood? Maybe Matthew Goode? Hey! That rhymes! Well played, Peter Jackson. Apparently, Goode has auditioned for the role of Bilbo Baggins for upcoming The Hobbit.

Jim is Captain America? No. No, no no no. Jim is awesome. We love Jim. He’s just not a superhero. Now that I have that off my chest: The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Office star John Krasinski is in line to play the Capt’n, along with Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Patrick Flueger (The 4400), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Michael Cassidy (Smallville) and possibly even Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl). Please, anyone but him. I’m hoping they still have quite a bit of searching to do…

Your Daily Dinosaur:

Clarissa explains it all … with dinosaur earrings.

Conan, I am your father. And my name is Mickey Rourke. (In all honesty, you could probably do worse, sonny.) More tip offs from THR, as Rourke has been cast to play father to Jason Momoa’s (Stargate: Atlantis) Conan in the upcoming film from Lionsgate.

Green is groovy: Scientists at Bloom Energy are explaining the hard math behind their new, more efficient fuel cell technology, the Bloom Box. The tech will be created for big businesses first, then for homeowners, according to Gizmodo. (Want to know more? Read this profile of Bloom CEO K.R. Sridhar on TIME.com)
