Today in Techland: It’s Thumbs Up Thursday, kiddies. Today, Mike liked Thor, Steve gushed over Children of Men in the Techland Screening Room, and Peter really loved the claymation version of Evil Dead. And there you have it, but first…

Here’s what else is going on in nerd news around the Web:

Badass Owls: Never thought I’d be writing that… The trailer for Zack Snyder’s (Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen) first animated feature is here. Based on the book series, Legend of the Guardians, is about a noble band of owls sworn to protect. It’s basically Lord of the Rings with owls … in cute little helmets. It looks totally awesome. Unfortunately, we have to wait until September to see it.

Hello Mr. Roboto: Logan’s first solo mission was a bit of a disaster but that hasn’t stopped Marvel from giving Wolverine another shot since, you know, they alluded to multiple sequels at the end of Origins – Logan in Japan and Deadpool. THR is reporting that Christpher McQuarrie has finished a drastically different script than expected and that filming will begin next January. The story, it seems, is centered around Frank Miller and Chris Claremont’s story arcs from the late 70s and early 80s. In any case, Logan will fall in love with a “Japanese actress” and learn martial arts. No mention of who will direct this epic failure but Singer and Ratner are pegged for other Marvel films, says THR. For the record, I hate Ratner and he should never be allowed to film a superhero movie. Ever. Again. –Peter

Things that should be canceled: FOX exec Kevin Reilly tells THR that Human Target will be back for another season if he has his way. Wait. What? You guys know that show has NOTHING to do with the comic, right? -Peter

Good news, everyone: Futurama is coming back in June with 12 new episodes and the entire original cast in tow! -Peter

Do. Not. Want.: Deadline is reporting that NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) has signed on to star in the upcoming Smurfs: The Movie live action, animation hybrid. NPH will not be slathered in blue as he’ll be the lead live action star. I don’t know how I feel about this. –Peter

Disney Avengers this fall: The previously announced The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is slated for 26 episodes this fall on Disney’s XD channel. Joy. –Peter

OMG OMG OMG: Sony and Zipper Interactive announced today that SOCOM 4 is in the works and that it will arrive this fall for the PS3. You’ll be deployed in a South Asian country where a group of militants have started a revolution. There’s even a 32-person multiplayer. -Peter

As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it’s too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you.

Superman Returns…to the CW: Has Smallville really been on the air for nine seasons? Well, the show is coming back for a 10th season. Maybe I’ll start watching. – Peter

Your Daily Dinosaur:

Today’s Daily Mail just sent up red flags as far as dinosaur history is concerned. Apparenlty, scientists have discovered a dino-like creature that pre-dates the oldest dinosaurs by 10 million years. The 240-million-year-old skeletons were uncovered in Tanzania.
