The Techland Show: The Nice Edition

This week on the Techland show we once again feature our intern Allie Townsend. Not only do Allie’s posts get more traffic than mine, she also got to see Alice before I did. This time next year Allie will probably have my job. The year after that she’ll have your job.

We get to the bottom of that and much more in this week’s episode.

Trying to Be Optimistic About a Google Music-Streaming System

The Wall Street Journal’s Amir Efrati and Ethan Smith are reporting that Google is working on a consumer-electronics system designed to stream music–and, eventually, maybe video and other media–around the home. Their story doesn’t have much in the way of detail, but does say that Google’s brainchild might be akin to a lower-cost version of Sonos’s excellent-but-pricey music-streaming products. Absent more details, there are several ways to respond to this sketchy bit of news.

Some are glorified app launchers, while others are downright ugly. Here are the 12 best widgets that no discerning Android user should be without.

Please turn the gain up on your mics, or, be like allie and speak into the microphones. Oh, the instantaneous reaction by Lev and Peter to Allie’s forthright comment on Willow’s bent was priceless.

Our audio for that one was all screwed up for some reason. Couldn’t use the mics, so we were speaking into a fricking camcorder that was sitting on the coffee table.

Lev’s look of pure disgust to Allie as she introduced herself at the beginning… man, I LOLed my pants. I’ve been a bit lukewarm towards the show so far – you guys seem to come down on the wrong side of the charmingly-ramshackle/seems-like-you-can’t-be-arsed divide a little too often – but that look alone gave you a free pass for a couple more episodes.

(Okay, so it wasn’t really pure disgust, but it was a really funny look)

@karuben I’ve been practicing that in the mirror
