Portable USB-powered monitors aren’t anything new but the current crop is made up mostly of 8-inch screens with 800×480 resolutions. A Hong Kong-based company called MEDL, however, has just introduced a 13.3-inch portable LED-backlit monitor called “The Panel.”

The Panel isn’t fully powered via USB like current travel monitors but it does have a lithium-ion battery that provides up to five hours of juice on a single charge. The monitor has a USB interface and is compatible with Windows and Mac computers–MEDL boasts that you’ll be up and running in less than 10 seconds. Aside from the USB connection, the monitor also features Mini-HDMI, VGA, Component, S-video, and DVI inputs, meaning that aside from being used for computing, The Panel can also be used with gaming consoles, cameras, and various portable devices.

Screen resolution is a respectable 1280×800 and the monitor weighs in at 2.2 pounds with a thickness of just under an inch.

No word on pricing or availability yet. How much would you pay for one? I’d love to put one on my desk but I have a feeling they might be a bit pricey.
