Cowboys & Aliens & Harrison Ford: A Match Made in Fanboy Heaven

We’ve been excited for some time about Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens, the comic created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg that finds an alien race invading Earth in the 1800’s. But late Wednesday, our excitement reached a whole new fever pitch with one innocent little tweet by Favreau himself. “Please stop asking if Harrison Ford is in Cowboys & Aliens. Okay?” the director tweeted to his 750,000 followers around 3 in the afternoon. “He is. Please don’t tell anybody.”

And in the blink of an eye, what once had seemed like a promising sci-fi adaptation, with Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde already attached, became a must-see event.

It’s been a long time since Harrison Ford really let go in a big-screen spectacle. We’re talking Han Solo, or Executive Decision here. But if there’s any franchise that might get the guy to lighten up, it’s Cowboys & Aliens, and if there’s any director who knows how to get the best and boldest from his actors, it’s Favreau. If all this tweeting winds up being true, we’re willing to forget all about Indy 4. All is forgiven.
