News broke yesterday that Marvel’s most beloved character would be getting a brand new animated series next year. That’s right, kids. Spidey is getting another reboot for the small screen, but this time it’s based on Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-Man.
This could go either way, but basing the series off of Bendis’ Ultimate series is certainly a good start. Come Fall 2011 on Disney XD, we’ll all be able to watch Peter Parker stumble his way through high school and “come to grips with his new powers.”
“Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth,” said Eric S. Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.
But as our own Douglas Wolk points out, the best comics-based animated series are completely original:
“But the best comics-based animation is the kind that takes off on its own–the original Batman animated series was much more fun than it would’ve been if it’d been based on even the best Batman comics, if you see what I mean.”
