Eugene Polley, Inventor of the First Wireless TV Remote, Dies at 96

A spokesman for Zenith Electronics says Eugene Polley, the inventor of the first wireless TV remote control, has died.

For all it’s hoopla, the iPad won’t do as much as a basic netbook. For that matter, not as much as my old PowerBooks. Even worse, the iPad (and Kindle) tries to tie you to Apple or Amazon for your content.

You don’t even really own the content because they prevent you from copying it, moving it to another device, or giving it to your brother. In some cases, they can even remotely delete it. They can’t do that with my of my 800+ ebooks, mostly downloaded for free, or to any of my movies video, or other material.

If the iPad is a “game changer” it is certainly in the wrong direction. I recommend everyone give serious thought to this before they buy one. Sorry about all you “early adopters”.

BTW, I know a really good barber that will fix that “doo” for $15! And there is a Thai restaurant next door that has a good buffet in case you get the munchies.
