I think it would be awesome if they actually could inforce a law that prohibited little kids from playing M rated games. I cant tell you how many times the players spamming grenade launchers in any COD game turn out to be under 18. (ALL OF THEM)
I cant even imagine how much more insane the Halo series would be.

Yes children deserve protection, but that protection does not have to all be from the government. Parents are to blame for buying/renting/letting their kids this kind of material. And the same thing with movies. This article says nothing about it being the parents fault, which all of the fault is on the parents.

While video games are an art form in their own right like the other forms protected by the First Amendment, they should also face the same restrictions as the other forms.

The law in question here is about protecting children. Similar to child pornography laws, children deserve protection.

The question is whether or not games are harmful to children. Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have reported how video games have helped develop the skills and reflexes they need to survive.

While games in general provide general and abstract problem solving skills, where does violence become a problem? I think, like movies, depiction of excessive and gratuitous gore is an offense that children do not need to be subjected to. Indeed, it's not particularly tasteful for an adult to go to a movie and be subjected to that. I think in general, entertainment has taken a pendulum swing excessively to the gory side.
