Welcome to the Loadout. Our philosophy is that the working week is a recurring boss battle that you’ll need the proper weapons to take down. The supplies at hand won’t always be pretty but you might just be able to hold out until the weekend. Green means add it to your arsenal, yellow leaves it up to your discretion and red means back away slowly. With that, let’s see what we’ve got this week:

The Game: Nier

Specifications: This action/adventure RPG from Square Enix features an warrior named Nier Getsalt as he searches for a cure for his daughter’s mysterious illness, with the help of a snarky magical talking book.

Ideal Usage Scenario: Nier’s an ideal pick for folks who wanted more action out of FFXII but the aesthetics don’t come anywhere near those of the RPG heavyweight champion. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

The Game: Super Street Fighter IV

Specifications: This remix to last year’s edition of Capcom’s hit fighting franchise features two new fighters, lots of visual effects tweaks and an all-new-tournament mode.

Ideal Usage Scenario: If you held off on getting SFIV last year, then GREEN MEANS GO GET IT for you. Even if you do own SFIV, you’re gonna want to pick up SSFIV. I played the tournament mode during Captivate 2010 and its spectator and recording features are quite awesome. It’s damn near irresistible once you add in those cool line-drawing shaders, the deadly sexiness of tae-kwon-do figher Juri and the craziness of the moves by Turkish oil wrestler Hakan.

The Game: Dead to Rights: Retribution

Specifications: DTRR’s a gritty revenge tale of rogue cop Jack Slate’s hunt for the criminals who killed his father. He’s helped by his vicious but faithful dog Shadow. Heck, if you chime in on our contest, you may even get it for FREE.

Ideal Usage Scenario: Judging by my hands-on time with it, Dead To Rights: Retribution should be a quick, fun romp made all the better by the Shadow component. THINK TWICE you don’t like seeing animals in danger but if you want a guilty pleasure action game, this should do you swell.
