Lost may be drawing to a close, but J.J. Abrams is already sprinting ahead with his next big TV project. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Undercovers has been picked up by NBC – a spy thriller co-created by Abrams and Josh Reims, which will star both Boris Kodjoe (Soul Food) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who) as secret agents. Even better, for Lost fans, Abrams has reportedly directed the pilot himself, no doubt ensuring that the series will kick off with the right tone and balance.

For NBC, it seems like a no-brainer of a decision – announced just a day after Conan O’Brien broke his silence about the NBC late-night feud on 60 Minutes, reminding all of us that NBC is still scrambling to fill five solid hours of prime-time programming every week. For Abrams, it is the latest evidence that this filmmaker and TV creator has no intention of slowing down any time soon. But for Chuck, this could be the final nail in the coffin. Already struggling in the ratings, and on the cusp of cancellation, Chuck fans must now start wondering: Does NBC really need two prime-time spy-romance series?

Then again: Is this really a network in the position to risk canning any familiar franchise? When it comes to desperate networks, this is one peacock to rule them all.

What do you think? Death notice for Chuck?
