New Skype Beta Features Five Person Group Video Calling

Skype’s on the verge of releasing a new version of its popular VOIP/instant messaging/video calling software to include support for group video calling with up to five people. You can take the beta version for a spin provided you and your fellow chatters have grabbed the same update.

According to the Skype blog post:

“With the latest version, you’ll be able to bring the whole family together for a chat, for lunch, or even for a birthday. You’ll be able to spend quality time with your best friends, planning a trip, or even hosting a book club. And you’ll be able to meet with colleagues from across the world without leaving your desk.”

I don’t know about book club. Something about everyone drinking a bottle of wine alone in front of the computer just seems weird but, who knows, maybe it’ll catch on. Just don’t confuse wine club with that conference call.
