Apple’s New MacBook: Better Graphics, 10 Hour Battery

Apple has updated its $999 MacBook laptop to include a new 10-hour battery that can be recharged up to 1,000 times–about five years before needing to be replaced, according to Apple.

There’s also a new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics system that’s “up to 1.8x faster than [the] previous-generation MacBook,” which Apple’s positioning as being powerful enough to handle graphics-intensive games, yet energy efficient enough to provide up to 10 hours of battery life for more mundane tasks like surfing the web.

Pricing starts at $999 for a system with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 250GB hard drive, DVD burner, and a 13.3-inch LED backlit screen with 1280×800 resolution. As far as configuration options go, the RAM and hard drive can be upgraded but that’s about it.

It’s a laptop. What else would you expect?

(Attention webmonkeys. I usually cut and paste to comment on this same site. Your citation BS is just yet another reason for the junkpunch I will give you when I next visit New York. Just so you know.)

I’d like to avoid a junkpunch myself, but a lot of PC makers offer upgrades like higher-resolution screens, different processors, 3G wireless chipsets, various optical drive options, webcam/no webcam, Bluetooth/no Bluetooth, different colors, and on and on and on.

I know simplicity is Apple’s thing but a first-time buyer coming from the PC side where there are generally more customization options than just RAM and hard drive size might notice something like that.
