This isn’t the proper venue to talk about the horrific oil spill in the Gulf, but Kevin Costner (yes, that one) has a machine that he claims will extract 97% of the oil polluting the water down South.
Costner has been funding the project, which is spearheaded by his brother, for the last 15 years. During a demo in New Orleans last week, the centrifuge successfully extracts diesel fuel from a water mixture. Five different models have been built that extract anywhere from 5 gallons/minute to 200 gallons/minute.
Will it work to scale? That’s the real question.
