Clark Kent Finally Works Out He’s Superman After Ten Years

It’s taken a decade, but it looks like Clark Kent is finally ready to assume his destiny as a man who wears his underwear on the outside with the news that Smallville‘s tenth season is to be its last.

The CW series has been on the bubble since creators Al Gough and Miles Millar left at the end of its seventh season along with original co-stars Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk, but despite a surprisingly strong showing on Friday nights this past year, the Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog is reporting that the CW will officially announce tomorrow that the show’s will finish with the conclusion of the upcoming season. Expect a final season filled with returning villains, guest-stars from the DC Universe (If nothing else, another Justice Society and/or Legion of Super-Heroes appearance) and, hopefully, at least one appearance of Clark in the Superman suit.

Of course, ending Smallville in spring 2011 could theoretically set the character up for his announced IMAX movie debut quite nicely. Wonder if Tom Welling is considering staying with the character even longer?

It’s not as if Tom Welling really has anything else going on in his career (unless he manages to get a guest spot on Chuck too).

I certainly hope that the next Superman movie sticks with Brandon Routh rather than going with Tom Welling.

it did make me laugh..simply because they’ve cast a complete unknown..instead of going with the theme they’ve had for 10 years which would indicate they have money to both burn and throw away…Smallville is a far greater maketable trade-mark with Tom Welling than they could ever hope to accomplish with a new baseless movie without him,..lool..this new Superman movie WILL NEVER – NEVER WORK..MUCH LIKE THE LAST ONE, because people are’nt stupid, what ever movie makers think, people or should i say the world have accepted Welling as certainly this generations Superman!!..the franchise i firmly believe will turn into a joke as did the Batman franchise of the 90s..where we had the case of every tom-dick and harry playing Batman , until of course christ nolan saved it!!! they realy need to keep true to the mythos of this by giving the fans and Superman followers not just what they want..but what there owed” because Smallville in its self like it or not has been ”the only” Superman representation for the last 10 years, and those who made it so, were Superman based fans and set of new fans from new generation, so fundimentally it would almost seem a crime to give people much less the fans a Superman based movie on which they cant familerate with,…i.e the actors and characters,…they didnt replace william shatner or leonard nimoy when the 60s series of Star Trek finished, because when production started on the motion pictures and movies they would nnever have worked…i just hope the powers that be do the right thing and give the fans what they want….they can still make movie to follow Smallville….i fear if they dont and all people are left with strangers and unknowns playing key parts…they may destroy the franchise forever!!!
