Cryptids: The Bloop

Going back to the deep sea monster theory, H.P. Lovecraft’s 1928 short story “The Call of Cthulhu” speaks of a fictional submerged city called R’lyeah located within 500 miles of the Bloop’s real-life coordinates.

And supposedly buried at the site is none other than Cthulhu itself, a sea monster known for “its hideous appearance, its gargantuan size, and the abject terror that it evokes.”

So could the Bloop be the infamous Call of Cthulhu? Aside from the fact that the whole thing is a fictional story by Lovecraft, the more troubling aspect is that one of the most terrifying sea monsters ever would use what sounds like an underwater passing of gas as its blood-curdling call.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near it when it happened regardless of what it actually is. Aside from the Bloop, the NOAA has recorded five other unidentified sounds around the world as well.
