LOST S06E16 E-mail Chain: Jackob

AT: I think Miles is definitely a goner. When you run off into he jungle by yourself, it’s the equivalent of saying, “I’ll be right back.” I think he’s toast. Especially now that Ben seems to be under the control of Smokey the Locke. (Miles still has the walkie talkie Ben gave him.)

I agree that much of what happened last night seemed a little anti-climatic, but I loved Whidmore’s death. “He doesn’t get to save his daughter.” But let’s rewind a few minutes. The temple leader warned that to kill the MIB, you couldn’t let him talk to you first. So I’m wondering, when Whidmore told Zoe not to speak to Locke and Locke slit her throat (Awesome! Gross!) was he killing just to kill, to emphasize a point or because he really was vulnerable in that moment. Or, like the rest of our questions, are these details actually meaningless? (Damn those numbers.)

GM: I’m really curious how the “Don’t talk to MIB” thing works. Does he have super hypnosis powers? Is he just very persuasive? I mean, Zoe was already talking to MIB before Widmore told her not to, so I’m guessing MIB killed her to scare Widmore by being badass and crazy or whatever. But then Widmore talked to MIB himself, which seemed weird.

Also: Assuming that Widmore wasn’t lying, Jacob visited him recently. We’ve definitely seen Jacob off-island before. Is it just me, or does that not seem odd, considering that all MIB wanted – even before he was a smoke monster – was to leave the island? Shouldn’t Jacob’s bility to leave be equally limited? Or is that just me?

AT: I’m guessing the explanation of Desmond’s “specialness” will be only slightly explained as well, seeing as most of the folks who know the answer are dead. You want to know who else I wonder about? (Of course you do.) Rose and Bernard. They were still on the island, and we’ve seen them this season right around the time they found Claire again with that freaky squirrel baby. What will be their part in all of this? Or will we just see enough of them to say goodbye?

MW: Well, if you look past the “Light that Needs Protecting” aspect of it and just view it as a job that needs doing then yeah, these are driven, flawed applicants that would probably do the job well.  I wonder if every person that steps into the role of the protector knows less and less about the Light and the Island. Jacob certainly knew less than his mother was able to tell him before she died. Jack certainly knows less than Jacob. In the next generation or two of protectors the job will be pure faith.

I’m predicting that Jackob and Smocke will remain on the island and Desmond will rescue everyone else with his magic electromagnetic accent.

GM: “You wanna leave the island, brothuh? Aye, I can get you off the island with my powers that everyone thought were time traveling until they weren’t.”
