Director Robert Rodriguez has announced that he’s making a live-action version of Fire And Ice, the 1983 collaboration between Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta, finally fulfilling a dream he’s had for over a decade.

Rodriguez confirmed the news during an interview with Ain’t It Cool’s Harry Knowles:

The awesome Ralph Bakshi and I have been working it out for a while, and it’s now a Troublemakers Studios Picture… [Frazetta has] been so influential to artists and filmmakers, and yet we still haven’t seen a Frazetta world truly come to life in a live action film, so that’s what I’d want to do with the Fire And Ice project.

The original Fire And Ice was an animated movie created by a mash-up of nerd icons: Inspired by Frazetta, directed by Bakshi (with the two collaborating throughout the production), from a script written by comic icons Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway. According to Rodriguez, the rights were secured shortly after Frazetta’s death, but Bakshi was involved in rights negotiations.
