Harry Potter’s Receding Hair Line: Photos of Deathly Hallows Epilogue Scene Leaked

It’s the few minutes that could discredit an entire eight-film franchise.

Collectively, Potter fans worry about the filming of the epilogue scene of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, the end to Rowling’s epic story that features the main (surviving) characters 19 years after the events of the book. On paper, it’s a scene that goes off without a hitch, but it’s an entirely different story when you need to transform a group of 20-year-old actors into 40-somethings. For such a small scene, there’s so much on the line. And it looks like we get to weigh in sooner than expected.

Though the cast tried their best to hide their appearances on the way to the set today, photos of an “epilogued” Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ginny Weasley-Potter (Bonnie Wright) hit the web and as much as I wanted to wait to be surprised, I just couldn’t help myself. Though it’s tough to really make out all of the details, I think the effect was achieved. They look … old. It’s a little startling, really. In my mind, Harry’s ending is that of a heroic youth with a “And they lived happily ever after” line that I’m able to finesse in my mind. But now, it’s all laid out in front of us, and I’m wondering if fans will respond well to this as their final image of the Harry Potter world on film before the final sendoff?

That said, I’ve always praised Warner Bros. for their choices in regard to appearances. The actors, like the characters themselves, are normal-looking people. Daniel Radcliffe is by no means your average heartthrob, and yet we love him. The women of the films are beautiful, but in a natural, simple way – no plastic surgery, self-tanner or too much eyeliner to vamp things up. With this in mind, it makes sense that we’ll see a version of the older characters who have, in fact, gotten old. They’ve put on weight, wrinkled in the face, and yes, even lost some of their unkempt trademark hair.

Harry Potter is all grown up … and yes, he may have a beer belly.
