Director Edgar Wright’s revealing more of the nerd-opus-in-the-making Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Even more scenes from Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series show up in this theatrical trailer.     Y’know, everyone is so ga-ga over this, but everyone panned Speed Racer. Does that seem right to you?

    @Church: I paid $12 American to see Speed Racer in the theaters. I wound up feeling two ways about it. One: The Wachowskis created a nice fusion of anime/manga tropes with really great special effects. For example, there were sections where characters were talking in multiple quadrants of the screen all while stuff was going on. So, from a design standpoint, tons of interesting stuff going on, including the sets and the cars. Two: The performances were really flat to me. Like flat that didn’t even work in an ironic way.

    We’ll see if Scott Pilgrim suffers from any of that. Finally, the source material started the love affair way before the movie did.
