Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk, has joined the long line of moviemakers taking their inspirations from comic books. But even thought Black’s new movie, 3 Story: The Secret History of The Giant Man, will feature a man larger than the norm, don’t assume that this will be another standard superhero flick.

Black will write and direct Story, adapted from Matt Kindt’s 2009 Dark Horse graphic novel about Craig Pressgang, a man afflicted with a medical condition that keeps him growing throughout life until his height reaches the three stories of the title. Black will apparently “soften” the movie for Universal Studios, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which is developing the movie as part of an overall development deal with Dark Horse that also includes Hellboy spinoff BPRD and Gerard Way’s superhero epic The Umbrella Academy.
