Photos: Your First Look At AMC’s The Walking Dead

Welcome to ‘Zombie of the Week,’ folks, where each week we’ll present you with a different brain-eating member of the undead that has captured our fancy. There is no methodology to our Zombie Awesomeness meter, just our own piqued interests. Got a zombie we should see? Comment below. No zombie is too small, too short-lived, or too gross.

Production is finally underway for AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, and the network posted zombie photos and a great message from director and executive producer Frank Darabont to celebrate. The show, which will debut in October with a six-episode first season, likely follows the story arc of Kirkman’s Walking Dead #s 1-6.

The studio wrote this up with their blog post:

(Atlanta, June 2) — Production begins today in Atlanta for AMC’s adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead. The six-episode first season — written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk) – follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.

Can’t. Wait.

Oh, goodie! I can’t wait for this!! I really hope it’s available streaming via netflix. (Allie, did I miss your Trek report? I can’t seem to find it. And when are they going to create discussion boards for us Techland fans?)

@dawnschilde – I haven’t finished watching enough to write up a decent post yet. Sorry for being so slow. Life is busy right now. I should have something up soon.

Never apologize for being too busy to keep up w/Star Trek. It indicates you have a life, dear. I don’t check this site daily and was out of town for the long weekend. Wasn’t sure I missed it. I have finals this week. I shouldn’t even be here now. *buries head in textbook*

I don’t think this will be streaming over netflix until the first season is released on DVD, dawnschilde.
