Verizon: “No Plans to Carry the iPhone in the Immediate Future”

There you have it, folks. Verizon Wireless spokesperson John Johnson (his first name is like his last name!) was asked the following by Beet.tv:

“Verizon and the iPhone, what is happening, if anything? What is the status?”

To which Johnson jokingly responded, “No one ever asks that question,” and then went on to say, “No plans to carry the iPhone in the immediate future, but you’ve got to look at the incredible excitement around Android devices.”

So if you’d been hoping against hope that the new iPhone that’s going to be announced on Monday will work on Verizon, it looks like you may be waiting a bit longer. Johnson went on to talk about the HTC Droid Incredible which is, in fact, incredible as a viable alternative.

Sounds good to me, who really wants an i-phone AND verizon that bad that either one would be a deal breaker?

I’m fine with Droid and other alternatives going to market, and its probably better for the industry and prices long term. Plus, droid seems a better investment to me.

I love my iphone but I’m getting dissatisfied with AT&T’s service. The call quality, drops, 3G internet speed, etc… have been getting worse lately. At this point I’d be willing to give up my iPhone at this point if I could get better cell service for what I’m paying now.

A little off topic, but does anyone know a good website or something that I can use to compare the service and quality of various cell companies near Chicago?

CellReception.com is pretty good for that. Here’s the Chicago area:
