Gmail May Offer Option to View Non-Threaded Replies

If and when you first started using Gmail, did you have trouble getting used to how replies came into your inbox? I know personally that I missed a few messages here and there until I got used to what Google calls “Conversation View.” And while I wouldn’t go back to the old way, there are still people out there who prefer to see replies come in as separate messages.

According to Business Insider, “Google is planning to offer a standard email option in Gmail in the next few months, two executives at the company say.” Those two executives aren’t named, of course, so take this information with a grain of salt. It’d kind of be a weird rumor to just make up, though. In the never-ending battle to lure potential email users, it makes sense for Google to offer as many options as possible from a usability standpoint.

How about they give us the option to collapse that stupid sidebar in Goolag’s search results?

My e-mail provider switched over to using the Gmail engine, and I was appalled to discover that it didn’t give me the option to sort my in-box chronologically. For my money, THAT’S the improvement I’d most like to see. (Fortunately, I normally use a POP connection via Apple’s Mail app, which lets me customize the user interface to my heart’s content, so it’s only when I’m away from my home computer that I’m reminded of Gmail’s suckiness.)
