Weak Point: 10 Terrible Movies Adapted from Video Games

The thing about the worst movies adapted from video game source material is the insidious way they reinforce the most ignorant criticisms of the medium. “What do you expect?” elitists sniff about dross such as Far Cry. “It was made from a video game.” Yes, it was… by opportunistic producers, hack directors and actors looking for an easy paycheck. Pulling off the jump from console to cinema can be hard enough, but, when the film-making’s bad on top of it all, there’s hardly any point. To illustrate this point, here’s a few cautionary tales from the games-to-movies hall of shame.

Hospital Live-Tweets Entire Open Heart Surgery [WARNING: GRAPHIC]

There are many times when it is inappropriate to tweet. At dinner, for one. In the middle of a movie. And, in most cases, open heart surgery. Dr. Paresh Patel, however, had a good reason to tweet during a 57-year-old patient’s double-coronary artery bypass — to create awareness for Heart Month, an initiative to prevent heart attacks and strokes in the United States. Be advised that this post contains graphic medical photos and videos.

that mortal combat clip is one of the funniest things have seen in many months. that brought tears to my eyes, the look on that girl’s face (sonya?) after his transformation spoke volumes.
i thought id see bloodrayne on there too, the hits just keep coming with bol. i guess ya just had to leave room for other people with video cameras.
lastly, i think i will attempt to find a copy of double dragon if there is still one out there. that movie looks amazing.

How could you leave Bloodrayne off this list? A movie that might actually have been good if done by someone other than Uwe Boll. The potential is there. And you were so on the mark asking how he gets talented actors to appear in his crap (Ben Kingsley?!) How the heck does the man get funding for movies that NEVER make any money?

On the other hand, I liked Doom. It was a good SciFi horror film in the vein of Event Horizon and others. And that FPS scene was excellent.

Actually, I thought for the most part that the Transformers 2 game was way better than the movie. At least there weren’t any ghetto Autobots or scrotum jokes.
