Double Jump: Five Great Movies Adapted from Video Games

Unless there’s a sudden technology breakthrough brewing that no one knows about, movies will always be missing the core element of video gaming: pressing a button (or providing some other kind of input) to make stuff happen on a screen. Still, film can accomplish things with gaming-centric adaptations that aren’t inherent to the interactive medium. Elements like emoting and picking apart a character’s psychology and motivations work better when it’s an actual human being bringing them to life. A good video game movie can also flesh out the world that the main characters operate in, and make things seem a little less lonely.  All these components can remind us why we play, even if we can’t interact with the thing we’re watching.
