Television Shows Flood San Diego Comic-Con

Over the last few years, it’s become increasingly obvious that the San Diego Comic-Con needs a new name, given the amount of non-comic-related guests, panels and material to be found there (Not that I’m complaining; it isn’t every day that you get to walk into Castle Grayskull, unless you’re He-Man). If you need any convincing about that, the Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog has a list of the television shows planning to make some kind of appearance at next month’s convention, and… well, if you weren’t already planning on heading down to Southern California, you might want to see if you can change your plans.

Amongst the shows making debuts at this year’s convention are both new superhero series, NBC’s The Cape and ABC’s No Ordinary Family, as well as the CW’s reboot of spy series Nikita and what’s sure to be one of the most anticipated panels of the show, AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s zombiepocalyse comic, The Walking Dead. Returning favorites include Chuck, Fringe, The Venture Bros. and, of course, Glee, where the kids will perform renditions of the theme tunes to Spider-Man, Batman and Metamorpho guaranteed to bring fans to their feet*.

Weirdly enough, CBS is also holding a panel for its new Hawaii Five-O series, which either means that there’s a geek subtext to the show that I’m entirely unaware of, or the makers are hoping that nerd goodwill for stars Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) and Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) will somehow translate into excitement about their otherwise disappointing new CSI: Bikinis And Surfing show.

San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 22nd through 25th at the San Diego Convention Center.
